Examination of parts of the locomotor system, such as the shoulder or knee joint or sections of the spinal column can be performed in a comfortable body position. The duration of the examination differs according to the body section to be examined as well as the issue under examination. Generally it lasts between 20 and 25 minutes, but under certain conditions it can be shortened to less than ten minutes.
Through its unique method of construction, open MRI also offers the necessary freedom of movement for functional investigations. Knee and shoulder joints, for example, can be imaged in different positions. The images are then post-processed by a computer and joined together to produce a moving picture.
